Male Breast Reduction

CANDIDATES:
Adolescents and men with enlarged breasts. The degree of augmentation varies according to the problem and can be formed by glandular and fatty tissue.

OBJECTIVE:
Reduce enlarged, female-like breasts in men cutting out the excess glandular tissue through a small areolar incision and aspirating the excess fat through liposuction, but in the majority of the cases only liposuction can solve the problem.

OPERATING TIME
1 hour to one and half hour.

ANESTHESIA
Local with sedation.

IN/OUT PATIENT:
Usually outpatient.

RECOVERY:
Back to work: 3 to 7 days. Strenuous activity: 2 to 3 weeks. Exercising: one month. Swelling and bruising: 3 to 6 months.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, temporary pain.

RISKS:
Fluid accumulation, infection, asymmetry. Pigmentation changes (may become permanent if exposed to sun). In cases where there is too much excess tissue there might be the need for a second procedure to remove more tissue after the skin has retracted.

DURATION OF THE RESULTS
Permanent.
